Trike TLC

Ranger has been a most reliable and faithful companion throughout this journey but, after 14,000km of Canadian roads, it’s not really surprising that he was in need of a little TLC. And so, this is a quick additional entry to send out some very well deserved thanks to a few very kind folks who’ve helped to keep my Ranger rollin’…

Firstly, thank you to Andrew, the son of my host in Vankleek Hill and an avid bike enthusiast, who volunteered to change my brake pads – including volunteering to drive to a bike shop many miles away just to get the necessary parts! Even though I was only in Vankleek Hill overnight, he went out of his way to make sure I was ready to roll the next day, and wouldn’t even let me pay for the new pads!

Thank you also to Jo and Chris at Jo Velo in Mont Tremblant, who replaced Ranger’s entire rear parking brake assembly in double quick time and once again, without charging me a penny! They were wonderfully friendly, enthusiastic guys, and it turned out that Chris grew up just a few miles away from where I did, so I didn’t even have to worry about finding the French for ‘the spring thingy on the parking brake has gone wibbly’…

And finally, thank you to the Rotary Club of Montreal-Lakeshore, who valiantly stepped in to cover the unexpectedly high bill from the slightly less friendly and generous Cycle & Sports Paul in Pointe-Claire…
